The CHUTE. A project space for small-scale, site sensitive installation.
The Chute is a cast-iron coal chute on the alley side of E.L. Hymns headquarters in the Mexican War streets.
With generous support from a Creative Development Grant from the Heinz Endowments, E.L. Hymns will be hosting site-specific installations of Pittsburgh-based Artists every month in The Chute.
If selected, each participating artists will receive a $150 honorarium, a small but heavily snack-filled reception. Documentation of the installation will be featured in an artist publication celebrating the 2022-2023 year of The Chute programming.
Deadline to Apply is 3/27/22. All applicants will be notified by 4/8/22.
The Chute is a publicly accessible and unguarded outdoor venue, located in an alleyway. While there is a door to the Chute, there is no additional covering/protection for the work.
Artists will sign a waiver indicating that it is OK should the work be stolen or damaged by weather, and will very likely not be returned in its original condition.
The Chute is: 16” (H) x 20” (W) x 7” (D).
There is a 13.5” x 19.5” pin-able homasote backboard for work on paper or other installation requirements. Aside from the backboard, all artists are required to provide/build any additional supports that the work may require.
